Custom made realistic Darth Maul lightsaber for a friend with dynamic motion-detected lights and sounds.
Overview
With no prior experience with this level of hardware engineering (and before Galaxy's Edge had opened at Disney...), I thought building a realistic lightsaber would be a fun challenge and a great gift for a friend.

Modular Design
The hilt is fully 3D printed and can actually unscrew in multiple places. This made it easier to install the electronics while also allowing it to be used as a dual saber or 2 single sabers.
The Build
The 'Brain' of the saber is a Nano Biscotte V4.0 soundboard. It allowed for multiple colors, default humming sounds, motion detection, and collision detection. I also made it so a random Darth Maul quote plays when the saber is turned on. At this point in time, there weren't really any instruction guides or kits, so I had to research parts, read manuals, and figure out circuitry myself.
Final Look
After much debugging from bad soldering and a rushed paint job, it actually turned out great! The saber had real weight to it and the motion/collision detection was very smooth.
