Ghetto Olympics Year 5
We are back with more games!
Overview
Another Ghetto Olympics! This year, I tried something different. I created 5 different games for athletes to compete in and once all of them were completed, we moved on to our final game called 'The Ultimate Athlete'. This was one big race that combined all of the previous games. The athletes had not known this, but the day had set them up to practice the skills needed to win the final game. Athletes scored points in each game, but 'The Ultimate Athlete' was worth more points so it could reward the athlete who picked up the skills the fastest throughout the competition.
Below are some highlights from the day!

Richochet Racket
With always wanting to have a slingshot game, it does get hard to make it unique each year. This year was a stretch if I am being honest. Athletes were split into teams of 3 where one person would be the shooter and the other two would have racquetball racquets and try to redirect any missed shots to the target.
From previous years, I knew that level powerful shots were easier than lobbed shots, so I put an obstacle in the way to force the athletes to shoot higher. I also put the target further back. Because this made it more difficult, I figured having teammates help missed shots would be a good way to balance it out. Once each team member hit the target, that team's time was stopped. Fastest team won.
How's Your Aim?
My favorite game from this year. Athletes are split into two teams and placed on opposite sides of a weird contraption. This game is like tug of war, but instead of pulling a rope, you are shooting Orbeez with a tube at a cup and trying to push the cup towards the other team. As soon as a cup reaches a side, it is scored and out of the game. There are 5 total cups, so the first team to score 3 cups wins!
This game was so exciting and came down to the last cup going back and forth for quite some time. It was also hilarious because whatever shots missed the cup most likely hit the opponents across from them. I gave everyone eye protection which was a great call because there were many orbeez flying around.

This game was built upon last year's favorite game 'Ball Pit Memory'. This time, it would be a game played in teams of 2. Each athlete on a team would have their own storage bin filled with water, beans, pool noodles, and their own laminated grid. This year, each grid was filled with complex symbols and the athletes had to figure out which 3 of their symbols were in the same spot as their teammate's grid.
Athletes could only meet and talk in the middle where they would place balls on a grid to ask me if they had found the correct symbols. This was a game of memory, but also communication. You had to make sure you were describing the symbols correctly or you could lose a lot of time. The fastest team won.
