Cuttlefish Lights V2

Software updates and pool noodles!

Overview

A random idea of using sandpaper to scuff up a clear pipe and insert the LEDs led me into a whole new world of lighting design and diffusion. With a reignited interest in the project, the software was improved and more behaviors were added.

Key Upgrades

  • Diffusion Literally just white pool noodles
  • Software Enhanced behavior algorithms

The Diffusion Challenge

After trying different materials, I landed on white pool noodles as the best option. They were cost-effective, easier to shape, and wouldn't have creases. Also, the way the lights glowed through them was perfect.

The Double Helix

I had the bold idea of making a double helix and wanted to make it perfect. I tried copper wire to hold the shape, and I tried making a ladder shape to twist out of PVC and rubber tubing. Turns out the best way was to just hang by hand. It isn't perfect but it turned out really good!
